Kaua’i Golf Courses and Resorts Garner Best-of Distinction from Conde Nast Traveler in its 10th Annual ‘Top 100 Golf Resorts’ Poll

(September 15th 2005) World-Class Resorts, Courses on ‘Kaua’i: Discover Golf’s Ultimate Island Green’ Offer 135 Holes Amid Lush Tropical Setting  (KAUA'I, Hawaii) – The Kaua'i Visitors Bureau today announces that several of the golf and resort properties in its golf-destination co-operative – Princeville, Poipu Bay and Kaua'i Lagoons – have garnered best-of distinction from Conde Nast Traveler Magazine in its 10th annual “Top 100 Golf Resorts,” a scientifically determined poll of visitors to the world’s greatest golf resorts.

Princeville Resort and its 45 golf holes were rated the No. 12 best golf resort in the world by Conde Nast Traveler readers, followed closely at No. 14 by Grand Hyatt Kaua'i Resort & Spa and its Poipu Bay Golf Course, home of the PGA Grand Slam of Golf where Tiger Woods, Michael Campbell, Phil Mickelson and Vijay Singh have qualified to play Nov. 22-23 in this year’s edition of that star-laden event.

A third member of the Kaua’i golf destination co-operative – the 36-hole, Jack Nicklaus-designed Kaua’i Lagoons Golf Club – rated No. 47 worldwide.

Princeville Resort and Grand Hyatt Kaua'i Resort & Spa also enjoy the distinction of having been named to Conde Nast Traveler’s Top 100 Golf Resorts list each of the 10 years it has existed.

“Having three of Kauai’s five golf-destination partners rated among the very best golf resorts in the world is worth its weight in gold because of the source – Conde Nast Traveler readers – and the extensive, objective research this leading resource for avid golf-and-resort travelers employed,” says Sue Kanoho, Executive Director of the Kaua’i Visitors Bureau.

The independent firms of Lieberman Research Group and Millard Group asked thousands of Condé Nast Traveler subscribers to evaluate hundreds of properties that they had visited in the past three years. Properties were rated on six criteria—Course Design (30 percent of overall score), Speed of Play (10 percent), Rooms (30 percent), Service (10 percent), Food/Dining (10 percent), and Other Facilities (10 percent)—using a five-point scale: excellent, very good, good, fair and poor.

Conde Nast Traveler is widely regarded as a premiere travel resource for the most avid travelers worldwide and it boasts an average paid circulation of 777,231 and estimated readership three times that number (more than 2 million per issue).

“What is particularly gratifying is that of the five golf-destination partners on Kaua’i all three that are part of resorts were honored by Conde Nast Traveler readers as ‘Top 100 Resorts’, “ says Ms. Kanoho. “Kaua’i’s other two golf-destination partners – Puakea and Kiahuna – have wonderful golf courses as well, so we’re excited for visitors to experience all five properties and judge each for themselves.”

The destination – “Kaua'i: Hawaii’s Island of Discovery” – is committed to grow golf’s presence under the lead of the Kaua'i Visitors Bureau. The island has long been known to avid travelers and island aficionados for its lush, tropical beach ambiance and romantic setting, luxurious weather, and virtually untouched natural beauty (less than three percent of this Pacific paradise is developed).

And many discerning golfers are well aware that Kaua'i is home to some of the world’s greatest golf courses designed by renowned architects such as Jack Nicklaus and Robert Trent Jones II, and that its courses host the annual PGA Grand Slam of Golf and regularly garner “best-of” rankings from national media.

What people are increasingly discovering, however, is the spectacular views found at the island’s golf destination properties and that most are close to one another. This allows players to simultaneously and conveniently obtain desired tee times and enjoy majestic ocean-and-mountain-view scenery, Kaua'i's natural splendor, year-round golf weather and unequaled value and variety.
