TEAM ASHWORTH’S STUART APPLEBY WINS THE SHELL HOUSTON OPEN WEARING THE NEW AWS PERFORMANCE APPAREL COLLECTION
(April 26th 2006) Team Ashworth member Stuart Appleby shot a 19-under-par 269 on the new Redstone Course in Humble, Texas for a 6-shot, wire-to-wire victory over Bob Estes at last weekend’s Shell Houston Open. Stuart’s six-stroke win represents the Aussie’s greatest victory margin of his career.
Appleby, 34, is a member of the US Team Ashworth, a roster of tour pros led by Team Captain and CBS broadcaster Jim Nantz and including Fred Couples, Chris DiMarco, Rich Beem, and Steve Flesch who sport Ashworth’s® apparel.
Stuart Appleby became the 14th player in 16 stroke-play events in 2006 to hold/share the 54-hole lead and go on to victory. At this point last year, just seven players had converted third-round leads to victory.
“I felt comfortable and relaxed knowing there was no way I could mess up the tournament… You’re wearing your golf outfit, walking the fairways, playing golf. “ Appleby said.
Stuart follows up a great performance by fellow Ashworth Tour pro Fred Couples at the Masters. Fred, who tied for third place, was also wearing the new Ashworth AWS performance range throughout the entire event.
