Saddle Creek Named California’s No. 9 Course by Golfweek

Heralded Northern California Resort Course Ranked in Top Ten for Third Straight Year

(March 13th 2006) (COPPEROPOLIS, California) – Saddle Creek Resort – a gated, 900-acre Castle & Cooke community in the scenic California Foothills – has been named California’s No. 9 course in Golfweek’s 11th annual, state-by-state ranking of “America’s Best Courses.”

This distinction marks the third consecutive year that Saddle Creek has ranked among the Top 10 courses in the state. The survey, which included nearly 800 California courses, examined overall strength of routing, feature shaping, natural setting, greens, variety and memorability of holes, conditioning and maintenance, landscape management and other criteria. Golfweek, which has a readership of more than 500,000, perennially sends roughly 300 “America’s Best” raters in search of notable places the public can play.

“We are honored to once again rank among the best courses in the state full of outstanding public and resort golf experiences,” says Al Martell, Vice President of Golf Properties for Castle & Cooke. “Saddle Creek is standing the test of time via its strategic, challenging design and expertly maintained conditions.”

Designed by Carter Morrish, the ten-year-old course is framed by the Sierra Mountains and challenges players of all levels with five sets of tees, more than 100 crystal white sand bunkers and handful of shimmering lakes. To create an atmosphere of tranquility and isolation, Morrish devised a routing in which no two holes run parallel to each other. Saddle Creek’s thoughtful design and sublime conditioning have led to numerous national accolades, such as being rated No. 40 on Golfweek’s list of “America’s Best Residential Golf Courses,” and one of the top four semi-private courses in Northern California by Golf Today.

In its December 2004 issue, Fairways and Greens magazine rated Saddle Creek one of the top golf resorts in the Western U.S., citing its exquisite course conditions, top quality service, meticulous attention to detail, high-end residential opportunities and comfortable and convenient bungalows. Most recently, Saddle Creek was included in the 2006/07 ZAGAT listing of “America’s Top Golf Courses” and was named one of “The 101 Best Golf Experiences in the West” by Fairways and Greens.
