SALES OF BUSHNELL LASER RANGEFINDERS EXCEEDING 2006 PROJECTIONS

Leading the sales surge is the new Bushnell PinSeeker 1500 Tournament Edition ($449) which has quickly established itself and the most compelling option for serious golfers seeking to accurately measure distances up to 1500 yards within one yard.

(March 20th 2006) Overland Park, KS, – Golfers and retailers across the nation are responding to the USGA and R&A’s decision to legalize distance measuring devices by putting Bushnell Outdoor Products’ sales of its family of laser rangefinders on pace for a record sales year. In fact, the company’s sales are exceeding the increased projections it made in anticipation of the USGA and R&A announcement.

Leading the sales surge is the new Bushnell PinSeeker 1500 Tournament Edition ($449) which has quickly established itself and the most compelling option for serious golfers seeking to accurately measure distances up to 1500 yards within one yard. Older technology made it difficult for golfers to acquire the flag without also acquiring background objects such as trees. The PinSeeker 1500 Tournament Edition’s “PinSeeker” capability solves that problem by “locking” onto any object on the course without inadvertently acquiring background objects and does so without the use of distracting reflectors.

“We expected a jump in sales with the USGA’s decision, but what we didn’t fully anticipate was the speed at which the golf industry would embrace laser rangefinders,” said Jason Seeman, Golf Sales Manager at Bushnell. “We hear from countless consumers and coaches that our products improve their game and enjoyment of the sport and with more and more tournaments agreeing to allow laser rangefinders as a condition of play, our company is working overtime to meet the demand.”

Bushnell’s X500 opening price point model does not feature the “PinSeeker” capability but provides accurate distance to flagsticks with or without reflectors, as well as objects throughout the course. According to the Darrell Survey, Bushnell’s laser rangefinders continue to be #1 on Tour with 95% of PGA Tour players and caddies using them during practice rounds. For the majority of those, the Bushnell PinSeeker 1500 w/Slope is the rangefinder of choice. The most advanced laser rangefinder on the market, the “Slope Edition” is an important training and coaching tool for golf teaching pros and coaches and a critical tool for Pros on Tour.

Unlike other products, Bushnell’s laser rangefinders are ready for use right out of the box and capable of accurately measuring distances to objects, over hazards, distance to the bend in a dogleg or to a bunker with a simple aim and click. Collegiate golf coaches have been among the early adopters of the technology. Southern Methodist University used Bushnell products at the first tournament of the year allowing range finders and won.

“I have always believed that confidence can be the difference between winning and losing at this level,” said Jay Loar, Director of Golf and Men's Head Coach at SMU. “With the Bushnell rangefinders, we are able to compete with confidence at courses that are unfamiliar to us. By knowing accurate distances, not only to the pin, but hazards and landing zones throughout the course, our team is able to focus their attention on executing the shot without the uncertainty that often distracts golfers playing a new course.”
