Proderma Products Launches Third Annual ‘ForeWard’ Educational Program to Protect Golfers from Sun-Induced Skin Damage in Fall and Winter

(PLYMOUTH, Mass.) – Proderma – maker of the only line of sun and skin-care products formulated specifically for golfers – today announces the launch of its third annual 'ForeWard” educational campaign to reduce the incidence of skin cancer and disease among golfers during Fall and Winter.
The ForeWard program was initiated two years ago after a Proderma-sponsored survey revealed golfers overwhelmingly disregard sun’s damaging effects on their skin when the temperature drops. The educational campaign has focused on golf-rich regions in America’s Sun Belt, where ultraviolet levels pose a year round threat for unprotected golfers.
ForeWard’s first two editions were deemed an overwhelming success, as Proderma representatives used a combination of lectures, literature and demonstrations to educate thousands of golfers about the damaging effects of prolonged sun exposure.
“During the first two programs, golfers from Florida to Southern California were made aware they are vulnerable to skin cancer and disease in all types of weather, particularly during fall and winter when they think they are out of harm’s way,” says Mike Argyelan, CEO of Proderma Products, L.L.C. “We hope to use our established platform to save lives by ‘fore-warding’ educational information about prolonged exposure to the sun.”
This season’s program is buoyed by the recent release of Proderma’s enhanced Prism Sunscreen and its SPF 15 and 45 formulas. Enhanced Prism – built upon the successful formula of the original – dries in less than 10 seconds, is odorless, residue-free and lasts up to eight hours at an SPF of 50.
Featuring the longest lasting, golf-specific sunscreens on the market today, Proderma Products have already received endorsements from The Skin Cancer Foundation and American Academy of Dermatologists for safety and effectiveness.
Once again this season, Proderma will utilize its “Facial Skin Analyzer” to lend a sense of immediacy to the ForeWard program. Not-so-affectionately dubbed the “Oh My God” machine, the Facial Skin Analyzer uses ultraviolet light to elucidate dead and damaged skin cells on golfers who unsuspectingly insert their faces into the machine. Reactions range from mild shock to pure horror as dead skin cells appear in white and damaged cells in black.
“No one wants to believe that his or her skin has been damaged by prolonged exposure to the sun’s harmful rays,” Argyelan says. “In addition to education, golfers are in dire need of a reality check when it comes to the effects of sun exposure as related to golf and other outdoor activities.”
Additional “protective and preventative” educational campaigns exclusively engineered by Proderma are in effect with PGA Magazine, PGA sections and the PGA Tour’s First Tee program. In 2005, Proderma launched the “Cool Kids Wear Sunscreen” campaign in concert with PGA Tour player Doug Barron. The program donates sunscreen to local area youth organizations and First Tee chapters commensurate with Barron’s performance at select PGA Tour events.
Proderma has produced literature about the effects of the sun’s damaging rays on cooler days in Fall and Winter, as well as tips about applying sun-blocking formulas. Proderma’s literature is available at more than 2,000 golf shops that carry Proderma products.
