PGA TOUR SELECTS BARONA CREEK GOLF CLUB AS HOST SITE FOR 2007 NATIONWIDE TOUR CHAMPIONSHIPS

(November 30th 2005) San Diego, CA — The PGA Tour announced today that the Barona Creek Golf Club will be the host site for the 2007 Nationwide Tour Championships set for October 27 through November 4. The event will also return to Barona Creek for the 2010 Nationwide Championships as well.

The Nationwide Tour is owned and operated by the PGA Tour and recently concluded its 16th season. The internationally-televised event features the top 60 players on the Official Money List who compete for 20 PGA TOUR playing cards over the four-day event. Those 60 players accumulate dollars at Nationwide Tour events throughout the year to reach the final dramatic championship.

Former Nationwide Tour players include standouts such as Ernie Els, Jim Furyk, John Daly, Chris DiMarco and David Toms. In all, past Nationwide Tour players have won 175 PGA Tour titles, including 10 major championships.

“The Nationwide Tour Championships will bring tremendous exposure and additional credibility to our golf course,” said Don King, Director of Golf at Barona Creek Golf Club. “Barona Creek will be a huge test for these top players and I’m confident the course will meet their strong playing abilities.”

Several hospitality events and Pro-Ams will be held in association with the event. More information on the tournament, including daily schedules, additional sponsors, and volunteer opportunities will be announced in the coming year.

“We are very excited to be coming to San Diego and Barona Creek,” said Bill Calfee, Chief of Operations for the Nationwide Tour. “The golf course will provide a great setting for our championship and we know that San Diegans appreciate quality golf and will support the tournament.”

The Century Club of San Diego, organizers of the annual Buick Invitational, will also play a vital part in this event with marketing and administrative support.

"We are extremely pleased to partner with the Nationwide Tour and Barona Creek Golf Club in bringing another major golf tournament to San Diego," said Tom Wilson, Executive Director of the Century Club, organizers of the Buick Invitational. " Barona Creek Golf Club was selected because of its unique design and challenging layout that will be an excellent test for the Nationwide Tour's top 60 money winners. This championship creates a truly exciting finish to the players season with the top 20 players earning their card to play on the PGA TOUR the following year. The Nationwide Tour has produced numerous regular PGA TOUR winners, so here's San Diego's chance to see the future stars on the PGA TOUR."

"The Century Club is excited to bring this Nationwide Tour season ending event to San Diego," said Bill Potter, President. "The Barona Creek Golf Club has an outstanding golf course and facilities that will provide one of, if not the best, championships in its history." "This event will not only benefit our community economically, but will also generate additional funds to deserving San Diego based charities."

Barona Creek Golf Club is a par 72 course that is 7,088 yards with nearly 100 multi-fingered bunkers and a series of lakes and ponds that are connected to the area’s naturally fed streams. The golf course also has more than 170 mature native oak trees transplanted from other regions of the Barona Indian Reservation. Making use of the subtly undulating terrain, prominent rock outcroppings and gentle elevation changes preserve the lands unique characteristics. The combination of both natural and strategic elements of the design make Barona Creek Golf Club one of the most challenging and thought provoking golf courses in San Diego.
