Nairobi Golf Safari & Tournament. Travel Program Planned for Nairobi, Kenya
(September 7th 2005) The Whitfield Foundation’s Golf and Business Travel Program Guarantees To Deliver The Cultural Experience of A Lifetime.
New York, NY—The African American Golfer's Digest and the Whitfield Foundation will host the inaugural American/Kenyan Golf Safari Tournament from April 26-May 7, 2006. The flight for the travel program will depart on Ethiopian Airlines from Dulles Airport destined to the beautiful and exotic city of Nairobi, Kenya, East Africa.
Founders of the program, Mal Whitfield and Renee Powell (PGA/LPGA) will lead the 10-day fully escorted tour that includes round-trip airfare, accommodations, sightseeing and the opportunity for true adventure. Over 100 passengers from across the United States are expected to participate in this first time ever event. Travelers will enjoy the beauty and culture of Kenya with opportunities to play in the amateur golf tournament, meet local business leaders and attend a special informative learning session with local business representatives and leaders on “How To Do Business In Kenya.”
Magazine publisher, Debert Cook, CMP is thrilled to be able to have her publication onboard as the program's media partner and highlights from the tour will be featured in the Summer 2006 follow-up edition. "We plan to participate annually in this event both as program planners and media partners in effort to develop greater awareness to all Americans of the great golf courses that are in Africa," she says.
“The ‘Golf Safari’ is a chance to promote foreign investment and exchange between touring visitors while visiting Kenya. The communication of such a ‘production fixed program’ enhances a financial future gain between the two Nations (Kenya and USA),” according to Founder, Mal Whitfield, a five-time Olympic medalist, African Affairs Consultant and Foreign Service Officer (Retired).
Whitfield says, “When Tiger Woods' father spoke of ‘revolution’ he meant that all human beings are equal, and that equal opportunity is all that is needed to prove themselves in the world of golf. The "Golf Safari" focuses on sports in economic planning and development to assist in enhancing the quality of peoples lifestyle in East Africa, as similar to what's going on now in the Western Hemisphere. Golf is in the highest category of intellectual sports presentation. Golf is the ‘elite’ sport that embodies a high level of achievement in social service and equal opportunity for financial reward. Over the years, Kenya's spirit of goodwill in soccer, tennis, golf, boxing, and track & field have enriched the culture of its people, and have influenced camaraderie with other countries for new ventures. Now, we are taking another giant step forward to continue to share in a joint partnership which started as far back as the Colonial days in the year 1954, when we were engaged in bringing our cultures together through sports in diplomacy, sports in education, and sports in leadership.”
A special “Bon Voyage Luncheon” will be hosted by Bank of America on April 26, 12:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. at the Washington Dulles Airport Marriott. Flight arrangements on Ethiopian International Airlines will offer comfort, which is impeccable to any airline service anywhere in the world. Accommodations are arranged in the Great Rift Valley at the Great Rift Valley Lodge and in Nairobi at the five-star Windsor Golf Hotel and Country Club. During the trip guests will be treated to several cultural highlights and outing options including a cultural night gala dinner and fashion show, safari, bush picnic, visit an open air market, the Leakey museum, art gallery, coffee farm, tea estate and participation in the tee times, practice rounds, a golf clinic, golf tournament and local religious fellowship.
