Several Kaua‘i (Hawaii) Properties Garner ‘America’s Best 100 Resort Golf Courses’ Distinction from Golfweek Magazine(December 23rd 2005) (KAUA‘I, Hawaii) – The Kaua‘i Visitors Bureau today announces that several of the golf and resort properties in its golf-destination co-operative – Princeville, Kaua‘i Lagoons and Poipu Bay – have garnered best-of distinction from Golfweek Magazine in its “America’s Best Resort Golf Courses – The Definitive Guide to Golf Travel in 2006.” The resort ratings are derived directly from Golfweek's annual list of “America's Best Courses,” published each March since 1997. America's Best Golf Courses are ranked by more than 350 raters throughout the country, who judge on the basis of 10 evaluation criteria. Rankings are calculated using a statistically rigorous process. Princeville at Hanalei and its 45 golf holes designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. were rated the No. 14 best golf resort courses in America by Golfweek, followed at No. 41 by Kaua‘i Marriott Resort & Beach Club and its 36-hole, Jack Nicklaus-designed Kaua‘i Lagoons Golf Club.
A third member of the Kaua‘i golf destination co-operative, Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i Resort & Spa and its Poipu Bay Golf Course – home of the PGA Grand Slam of Golf where Tiger Woods, Michael Campbell, Phil Mickelson and Vijay Singh played last month in this year’s edition of that star-laden event – was rated No. 42. Poipu Bay was also designed by Trent Jones Jr.
“Having three of Kauai’s five golf-destination partners rated among the very best golf resorts and courses by an esteemed national publication such as Golfweek is a wonderful, objective endorsement,” says Sue Kanoho, Executive Director of the Kaua‘i Visitors Bureau. “We hope this distinction will entice people to visit Kaua‘i and experience those great golf properties, as well our other two golf-destination members – Puakea and Kiahuna – both tremendous and well-regarded in their own right.”
In bestowing top-100 status to the members of its America’s-best-resort courses list, Golfweek stated that they have three things in common: “Complex and at times demanding shot options, diverse teeing grounds that accommodate a wide range of clients; and a presumption that knowledgeable golf travelers value attention to detail in the presentation of a golf course.” Golfweek’s criteria for evaluating the golf courses, and the America's Best Classic, Modern, and a comprehensive state-by-state list, may be found at www.americasbestcourses.com.
The destination – “Kaua‘i: Hawaii’s Island of Discovery” – is committed to grow golf’s presence under the lead of the Kaua‘i Visitors Bureau. The island has long been known to avid travelers and island aficionados for its lush, tropical beach ambiance and romantic setting, luxurious weather, and virtually untouched natural beauty (less than three percent of this Pacific paradise is developed).
Many discerning golfers are well aware that Kaua‘i is home to some of the world’s greatest golf courses designed by renowned architects, and that its resorts and courses regularly garner “best-of” rankings from national media, including Conde Nast Traveler, Golf and Golf Digest magazines.
What people are increasingly discovering, however, is the spectacular views found at the island’s golf destination properties and that most are close to one another. This allows players to simultaneously and conveniently obtain desired tee times and enjoy majestic ocean-and-mountain-view scenery, Kaua‘i’s natural splendor, year-round golf weather and unequaled value and variety.
