Hills Golf Club, West Sweden

(April 2006) Located on the outskirts of Gothenburg, Sweden's second-largest city, this private club lies in an undulating setting dominated by rock, including granite promontories and steep rock faces.

The course has a championship-calibre layout built with the Scandinavian Masters (and possibly the Ryder Cup) in mind. At 7,700 yards, it is one of Europe's longest tracks, though each hole has up to seven tees.

Most of the holes are threaded through a mature forest, while a few are wrapped around lakes. The architects were Arthur Hills and Steve Forrest. Visit www.hillsgolfclub.se. For information on West Sweden, contact the West Sweden Tourist Board on 00 46 3181 8300 (www.vastsverige.com).
