ECCO Staff Player Meena Lee Captures 2006 Fields Open in Hawaii
(Feb 27th 2006) Renowned Danish shoemaker ECCO announces that international golf sensation Meena Lee wore its Sport Tempo model golf shoes while capturing the 2006 Fields Open in Hawaii this past weekend at The Ko Olina Golf Club in Kapolei on the island of Oahu.
The 24-year-old claimed her second career LPGA tournament title by defeating fellow South Korean Seon Hwa Lee in a three-hole sudden-death playoff. Meena Lee started the day seven shots off the lead, but was able to obtain a spot in the playoff by way of a sterling final-round 65 that included five birdies and an eagle.
“I never thought about winning today, because there was too much of a gap between the leaders at the beginning of today,” said Lee. “But after the eagle on the second hole and the luck of playing well today, I ended up having a great day.”
Lee is a recent addition to the rapidly growing ranks of high-profile men’s and women’s Tour stars who are ECCO staff players. Her first LPGA Tour victory came at the 2005 Canadian Women’s Open. She followed that up with several strong performances, eventually finishing second in the Rookie of the Year race. A superstar in her home country, Lee captured the 2000 Korean Women’s Amateur Championship and one Korea LPGA title before coming to the U.S.
ECCO are preferred by the world’s most discerning players, including international Tour stars Colin Montgomerie, Juli Inkster, Thomas Bjorn, Iben Tinning, Aaron Baddeley, Sophie Gustafson and Thongchai Jaidee.
Highlighting the keen attention to fashion, form and function that has distinguished ECCO for more than 40 years, the 2006 ECCO golf collection includes numerous new styles for men and women, including several fully waterproof Gore-Tex® options. Each model features water- and weather-resistant leather, distinctive comfort and cushion features, and is made using a direct-injection process unique in the field of golf footwear.
