ECCO Staff Player Colin Montgomerie Captures Dunhill Links Championship

(October 6th 2005) Danish shoemaker ECCO announces that international golf legend Colin Montgomerie wore its renowned World Class Collection golf shoes while capturing the 2005 Dunhill Links Championship this past weekend at The Old Course in St. Andrews, Scotland.

The 42-year-old Scotsman claimed his first victory since the 2004 Singapore Masters with a birdie on the final hole to finish at 1-under-par 71 for the day. His nine-under-par 279 total placed him one stroke ahead of England’s Kenneth Ferrie.

'This is the most important win of my career – and for it to happen here makes it really special,' said Montgomerie. 'I was looking forward to getting back here after the Open and it's good to come out on top this time.'

The win, Montgomerie’s 29th European Tour title, was significant in many ways. He moves to no. 16 on the World Golf Rankings and into the top spot for Europe’s 2006 Ryder Cup standings. With four events left on the 2005 schedule, Montgomerie stands less than €130,000 behind Order of Merit leader Michael Campbell.

In addition to playing exclusively in World Class Collection golf shoes from ECCO, Montgomerie sports the ECCO logo on the sleeve of his golf shirt. ECCO men’s golf shoes – including several fully waterproof GORE-TEX® models – are also endorsed by international Tour stars Thomas Bjorn, Aaron Baddeley and Thongchai Jaidee.

ECCO golf shoes are praised by Tour and everyday players for their innovative styling and unprecedented attention to detail and comfort. All models feature ultra-soft, high-grade leather and extra cushion provided by PU-injected midsoles for superior shock absorption, a process unique to ECCO in the golf industry.
